DIRECTOR AND PRINCIPAL
Director of PowerHub Group, Gerard leads the company’s mission to provide greater energy stability and security for kiwi households through a flexible, service-led model. A chartered accountant and INFINZ member, Gerard brings deep experience across leadership, finance and capital markets.
He began his career with the Audit Office in New Zealand, followed by accounting roles in London, before returning home and starting his banking career with the Bank of New Zealand. He then moved into investment banking and went on to spend more than two decades with HSBC NZ. Here he established its local investment banking and debt capital markets capability and later served in senior leadership roles across treasury and global markets, overseeing balance-sheet funding, liquidity, custody and treasury sales. He then spent three years leading a private bank in the Cook Islands back to sustainable profitability, following which he returned to New Zealand and was appointed CEO of a finance company and established its Wholesale PIE Fund.
At PowerHub Group, he is focused on scaling customer-first energy solutions that help households reduce power costs, stay powered through outages, protect appliances and reduce reliance on the grid—supporting a more resilient and sustainable energy future for New Zealand.

DANIEL TRINDER
STRATEGIC ADVISOR
Strategic Advisor, Daniel advises financial institutions and technology firms on international
policy, financial regulation, and market structure. His career spans over 20 years of global senior leadership roles across both the public and private sectors, international institutions, such as the IMF, OECD and IOSCO, and with a proven record of setting strategy, shaping policy outcomes, building and maintaining complex stakeholder relations, and strengthening compliance and governance.
Until recently, he was an Executive Director at New Zealand’s Financial Markets Authority (FMA), and an advisor to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) on financial supervision. Earlier in his career, Daniel was a senior civil servant at HM Treasury, responsible for European and international financial services during the UK’s Presidencies of the EU and G7/8, and has previously led Government Affairs and Policy at Binance, following 15 years in investment banking as Global Head of Government and Regulatory Affairs at Goldman Sachs, Deutsche Bank, Standard Chartered, and Barclays.
Daniel is also affiliated with the Cambridge Centre for Alternative Finance (CCAF) at the University of Cambridge, holds an Honorary Professorship in Economics and Finance at Queen Mary University of London, and serves as a board advisor to several technology start-ups, including Altilium, which recycles and manufactures electric vehicle batteries in the UK.
Daniel has a deep understanding of financial services and remains at the forefront of how the sector is evolving. This expertise, combined with a strong ability to grasp complexities, enables him to build a trusted international network and to manage complex stakeholder relationships, represent major organisations externally, and engage effectively with senior leaders across global financial institutions and public service.

JOHN CANDY
ADVISOR MARKET OPERATIONS
Advisor Market Operations, John is a Chemical Engineer by training, starting his career in the Fertiliser and Industrial Chemical industries and gaining experience in plant design, operation and chemical management. Later, working in the Electricity Industry, John was at the forefront of data management for what are now called “Smart Meters”. Gaining experience in commissioning meters, HHR data gathering and management, and design and commissioning of systems to handle what became an explosion of remotely read metering.
John was also a member of the design team that resulted in the Electricity (and Gas) registries as we know them today and was a regular contributor in industry working groups to refine the registry and adapt the electricity and gas reconciliation systems as requirements developed. He has been Test Manager for many of these implementations either for major Retailers and MEP’s or as the national coordinator acting on behalf of the EA and the GIC. John has held roles in several major Electricity and Gas retailers, and after the successful completion of an implementation for Contact Energy started his own consultancy, specializing in assisting entrant Retailers to fulfil the market and compliance requirements as Traders, MEP’s and Network Operators.
For the last decade John Candy Consulting has supplied services to a significant portion of the electricity industry supporting registry maintenance, switching, RM submissions, Retailer and Network billing.

RONALD BEATTY
ADVISOR REGULATORY ENVIRONMENT
Advisor Regulatory Environment, Ron’s most recent public sector role was with New Zealand’s electricity market regulator, the Electricity Authority, where he served for 16 years before retiring to private practice in December 2021. During his tenure, he was Manager Market Operations until late 2013, overseeing the operation of the electricity market and its service providers. He then moved into the role of Principal Adviser, Market Services, a specialist advisory position he held until his retirement from the Authority.
As Principal Adviser, Ron acted as a subject matter expert providing technical and regulatory advice to the Regulator, government agencies, and industry participants on complex operational and market issues. His contributions included the introduction and design of key industry processes such as distributed generation trading, high-speed switching, global reconciliation, auditing and certification regimes, smart metering frameworks, the establishment of the Metering Equipment Provider role, the Central Registry, and consumer care requirements, among numerous other initiatives.
In his current practice, Ron specialises in projects involving complex regulatory and operational issues such as load and generation connections and operation, network losses, data analysis, metering requirements, multiple-trader relationship pilots, secondary networks, training, and the development of industry Standards. One of the pilots won a national Energy Excellence Award in 2024.
